The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has revealed that the sales of application forms for Direct Entry (DE) program will commence on Wednesday, March 12, 2025.
This was disclosed through a JAMB advisory issued by Public Communications Advisor, Fabian Benjamin after the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination registration closed on Saturday, March 8, 2025.
As recorded by JAMB, the registration of the 2025 UTME was pegged at 2,030,627 candidates while 200,115 students registered for the Mock-UTME. 630 candidates also opted for the mock trial exam.
What is Direct Entry (DE)?
Direct Entry (DE) refers to a streamlined admission process for students who possess qualifications that are higher than secondary school education.
DE candidates unlike UTME candidates that start from 100 level are admitted directly into 200 level.
To be eligible for Direct Entry, one must have:
A National Diploma obtained from a polytechnic institution.
A National Certificate in Education awarded by colleges of education.
Any bachelor's degree such as BSc and BA.
A-level certificate obtained by recognized bodies specifically IJMB, JUPEB or Cambridge.
Important Things to Know About DE Registration
JAMB has put strict rules in place to make sure that only genuine candidates apply.
Here are key points:
Registration will be done only at JAMB Professional Registration Centres (PRC).
Any fake or forged certificate will lead to severe punishment.
JAMB has set up a committee to verify all A-level results.
Universities must also check and confirm candidates’ certificates before giving them admission.
JAMB has made it very clear that anyone who tries to use fraudulent results will face legal action.
My Personal Story Utilizing JAMB alongside Direct Entry
I still recall how tedious my JAMB registration process was, simply because I did not have the necessary information in time.
Some friends of mine who possessed the ND qualifications from the polytechnic schools were interested in the Direct Entry option, but they had no clue how it functioned.
Chinedu, one of my friends, nearly missed out because he attempted registering with a cyber café instead of a JAMB accredited center. His application was denied due to lack of certain functions and he was forced to restart the entire process, which cost him time and money.
If you proactively set out with an intention of claiming a Direct Entry into a school, I suggest you do not make the same blunder. Attempt self avoidance of the traps.
How to Register for Direct Entry Without Going Through Stress
Here are some suggestions that will assist you in carrying out a Direct Entry registration with ease:
1. Confirm eligibility: Ensure that you possess an acceptable qualification such as an ND, NCE, A-Level, or any degree from a university.
2. Prepare your documents in advance: These include O’ level results of either WAEC, NECO or NABTEB, Direct Entry qualification certificate, JAMB profile code, and National identity number (NIN).
3. Do not go to a cyber café: The said registers should not be done at a cyber café; these have a specific district where you are to carry out the registration.
4. Be cautious with the information you provide: Provide the correct name, date of birth among other personal information.
5. Follow JAMB updates: Keep checking JAMB’s website or social media pages for any announcements.
The Reasons Why JAMB Uses CBT
JAMB has transitioned to using Computer Based Testing (CBT) for all its examinations. This means that students will now use computers to take their exams instead of writing on paper with a pen.
The use of computer-based examinations enables quick, reliable and secure evaluation of candidates, while also reducing cases of examination irregularities. Additionally, students are able to check their results in an expedient manner.
Conclusion
The sale of JAMB Direct Entry forms starts on 12 March, 2025, so if you wish to apply, you have some preparatory work to do now. Make sure that you are eligible for Direct Entry.
Only register at JAMB accredited center. Be ready with the documents to avoid unnecessary frustrations.
