The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has said that eight universities in Nigeria will not be allowed to admit students for Law in the 2025/2026 academic session.
JAMB’s spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, said in a statement that the decision was made because the Council of Legal Education (CLE), which is in charge of legal education in Nigeria, has stopped the Law programmes in those universities.
The affected universities are Kwara State University, Malete; Bingham University, Karu; Redeemers University, Ede; Western Delta University, Oghara; and Taraba State University, Jalingo. Others are Arthur Jarvis University, Akpabuyo; Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike; and the Nigerian Police Academy, Wudil.
JAMB said it will not process the admission of any student who applies for Law in these universities for the 2025/2026 session.
It also said that the suspension at the Nigerian Police Academy will last for two sessions, covering 2025/2026 and 2026/2027.
JAMB is the body that conducts the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), which is the entrance exam for students seeking admission into Nigerian universities, polytechnics, and colleges.
This year’s UTME will begin on Friday, 31 January, with about 1.5 million students expected to take the exam.
