As the year 2024 is approaching, many including me, Prudent Joshua wants to know when Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) will start giving admission.
Based on my research and experience on how JAMB conducts its admissions, here are some of the findings I discovered.
JAMB’s Admission Schedule for 2024
Usually, after UTME results are out and candidates have completed their post-UTME screening in institutions around Nigeria, JAMB starts processing admission.
For the forthcoming academic session of 2024/2025, it is expected that JAMB would offer admissions from October to December 2024. This aligns with previous years where the process starts in the last quarter of the year.
How Does JAMB Admissions Work?
Within JAMB there are several stages before final acceptance:
1. UTME and O'Level Results: Your UTME score and O'Level results play significant roles in your admission chances.
The point system used by JAMB awards points based on these scores which then goes into consideration by universities and others.
2. Admission In Principle: Initially, JAMB gives provisional admission to students who meet the necessary requirements. This implies that candidates are allowed for further vetting by their various selected institutions.
3. Institutional Screening: Following a provisional offer of admission from JAMB, candidates must be screened by their individual institutions.
Every institution has its own cut-off values and provisions that must be met in order to secure final admissions.
4. Acceptance or Rejection: Having been granted admission, it is mandatory for applicants to sign into the JAMB Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) website and either accept or decline the offer on there.
This move becomes critical as taking up one offer automatically cancels any other subsequent ones.
Preparing for the Admission Process
To make sure you are ready for admissions process, here are a few things you can do:
1. Stay Updated: Consistently check out the JAMB portal and your choice of school’s website, if available, in order not to miss on anything related to admission process such as dates and requirements.
2. O'Level Results: Ensure that your O'level results have been uploaded correctly on the JAMB portal without any errors since these may affect your chances of being admitted.
3. Meet the Requirements: One should ensure that he/she knows the specific requirements for his/her program of choice and the institution he/she has chosen.
This also means understanding what cut-off points are as well as what kind of documentation will be needed.
4. Prepare for Screening: Expect other screening exercises from your institution which might involve interviews, medical examinations or other tests.
My Experience with JAMB Admissions
Having undergone this process myself, I know how nervous one could get. The secret is to be calm and focused.
I too had to check my admission status on the JAMB CAPS portal regularly and kept in touch with my institution of choice throughout.
To conclude, October 2024 is when registration is expected to begin for JAMB admissions into different tertiary institutions for the 2024/2025 academic year. Being informed and ready will improve your chances of getting admission into your desired higher learning institution.
